Mayra Montante

Program Lead

A woman with straight dark hair, some gray streaks, and a patterned high-neck top smiles in front of a plain gray background.

Mayra (she/ella) began her time with SitStayRead as an intern through Northeastern Illinois University, where she earned her degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. Through her work in SitStayRead classrooms she discovered a deep appreciation for the ways literacy, emotional safety, and community-based learning support children’s growth and confidence. She joined the team as a Program Lead for the Winter 2026 program term and is excited to continue working alongside students, volunteers, and dog teams. As a bilingual Spanish speaker, Mayra values building meaningful, inclusive connections in the classroom and helping foster a joyful, lifelong love of reading.
